ADYAR CANCER INSTITUTE (WIA)
CHENNAI, TAMIL NADU
The Cancer Institute is a comprehensive cancer care center founded by Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy, the first women in India to graduate with a degree in medicine in 1912. She started the Cancer Institute after losing her sister to rectal cancer, with the intention of providing affordable and quality care to patients of all socioeconomic backgrounds. 40% of the Cancer Institute's beds are paying and remaining beds are provided to patients for inpatient care, free of cost. The Cancer Institute sees over 15,000 new patients a year and over 140,000 follow up cases. We currently support a palliative care and pediatric oncology project at this site.
