JAWAHARLAL INSTITUTE OF POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION AND RESEARCH
PUDUCHERRY
The Jawaharlal Insitute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) was originally the Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry, as established by the colonial French government in 1823. After Pondicherry was transferred back to the Government of India, the Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry was inaugurated by the government of India in 1964 and the hospital was renamed as JIPMER. In 2008, JIPMER was declared as an Institution of National Importance and is able to award undergraduate, postgraduate, and super specialty medical training, as well as fellowships and PhD programs.
