North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences

The North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) was established by the Government of India in 1987 as the first post graduate medical institute in the North East region, similar to caliber of institutions like AIIMS and PGIMER. NEIGRIHMS was declared a Center of Excellence for Medical Education and Human Health Resource Development in 2007 and was also deemed an Institute of National Important in 2000. It's current bed strength is at 531 with a variety of specialty departments that offer quality medical treatment to the citizens of North East India. JDF has one palliative care project at this site.

The JDF palliative care project at NEIGRIHMS began in 2015, with local champion Dr. Prithwis Bhattacharyya. Dr. Bhattacharyya is a Professor of and the Head of the Department of Anesthesiology. We currently support one doctor, one nurse, and one social worker cum data manager at this site.
